Your courier service provider can be a great resource, but you have to know how to use it properly. If you don’t take advantage of your courier service’s special features and follow the right steps, you may end up paying more than you should or needlessly waiting on your deliveries. To get the most out of your courier service, follow these five steps.
1) Understand that tracking numbers mean different things
When it comes to courier services, many people understand the basics. Tracking numbers are supposed to track the package from origin point, destination point, or both. However, there is often confusion surrounding what these tracking numbers actually mean.
2) Find the right contact information
You may not realize it, but there are plenty of different couriers you can use. The easiest way to find the courier company that will work best for your needs is by first finding their contact information. Make sure they have service in your area: Whether you need door-to-door or pick up from a specific location, make sure the company has service in your area before continuing with any steps.
3) Know what needs to be sent with your package
Take photos of your package. Photos are useful in case there is any damage incurred during the trip, and they can be attached to the customs declaration forms. Fill out the customs declaration form with all relevant information: items inside the package, destination, sender’s name and address, recipient’s name and address (if not same as sender), weight of parcel/package etc.
4) Choose the right package
Choose the right size for your needs. The wrong size package will not only cost you more money, but will also take up space and add weight. With this in mind, one of the first things you should do is measure all of your items before ordering a shipment. This way, you know what size box or envelope you’ll need before you place an order. Order early enough in advance to get through customs at least three days before the deadline
5) Tips for saving money
Set up the delivery ahead of time. Courier services offer discounts for pre-pay or in-advance deliveries. Make sure you are aware of all fees and rates before agreeing to your pick-up location and destination, as these may change depending on your location. Courier companies will often require you to be present when they deliver items so it is best if you can either get there before they arrive or arrange for someone else to meet them at your location.
